Audi A3 Key Replacement | Lost Keys, Spares & Lock Faults

The 8P has a known weakness in its ignition and steering lock unit, a part shared with the Golf Mk5 and Mk6. Failure is common, so an Audi A3 key won't turn enquiry needs to distinguish a lock problem from a request for another key. Describe exactly what happens when you try to use it.

The 8P spans roughly 2003–2012, followed by the 8V from around 2012–2020 and the 8Y from about 2020. We handle lost-key replacement at the car on the 8P and supported 8V models up to around 2018. An 8V badge alone is not enough to establish eligibility, because the system changes within that generation.

Later 8V and 8Y cars are spare-only: if every key is missing, you need the dealer. We use the registration to confirm the boundary before accepting A3 key programming work. If the situation proves different on arrival, any revised price is explained before proceeding, with no call-out charge should you decline it.
