Can Your Porsche Key Be Done On Site?
It depends on the year. Spare keys and all-keys-lost replacements are done at the car on Porsche models up to around 2015, and on the Macan up to around 2019. Newer key systems are still largely dealer-only. The registration tells us which applies, so we check it before quoting rather than after arriving.
The Cayenne and Macan share much of their electronics with other Volkswagen group vehicles, so Porsche key programming on those models has a lot in common with Audi work. Porsche Key Repair Before Replacement
Porsche keys tend to wear on the outside long before anything fails inside. Housings split along the seams, the rubber over the buttons wears through, and the keyring loop snaps. In most cases the chip and circuit board are perfectly healthy.
A Porsche key repair moves those electronics into a new housing, so the key keeps its programming and needs no recoding. It costs far less than Porsche key replacement, and the key looks new again. If a button only works when pressed hard, that's usually a worn contact under the rubber, which is replaced in the same repair, and a fresh battery is fitted while the key is open. Locked Out Of A Porsche?
A key shut inside a locked Porsche is opened with tools that work the lock rather than the door frame, so the paint, seals and glass are left as they were.
