Van Key Replacement Without Leaving The Job

Van key replacement means making a new working key for your van, cut to its locks and programmed to its immobiliser, without the van having to go anywhere. It covers lost van keys, spare keys for additional drivers, broken keys and remotes that have stopped working, and it's carried out wherever the van is: at home, in the yard or on site.

Why Vans Need A Commercial Vehicle Locksmith

Vans work harder than cars. Keys are carried all day, dropped on site, swapped between drivers and left in jackets. Locks and ignitions see far more use, and a van that's off the road costs money by the hour, not just inconvenience. A commercial vehicle locksmith understands that, and plans the visit around getting the van working again as quickly as possible, including Ford Transit key replacement on the same visit for most models.

What A Van Locksmith Brings

A mobile van locksmith carries the blanks, remote keys, cutting machines and programming equipment in the van. Most jobs are finished in one visit, and work can often be booked around your day so the van isn't standing idle.

Your options

Mobile Van Locksmith Or Dealer?

For a working van, the deciding factor is usually how long it's off the road.

For most vans, a mobile locksmith is the quicker route. A small number of very recent models still need the dealer, and we'll say so when you call.

Lost Van Keys, Spares & Lockouts

These are the van jobs we're called for most.

Lost Van Keys

When every key has gone, the lock is decoded to find the cuts, a new blade is cut, and the key is programmed to the immobiliser. Where the van's system allows, the lost key is deleted so it can no longer start the engine. That matters for a van carrying tools or stock.

Spare Van Keys For Extra Drivers

Vans shared between staff often need two or three keys. Spare van keys are made by van key cutting from a working key, then registered with the van as separate keys, so each driver has their own and one can be removed later if it goes missing.

Locked Out Of The Van

Keys locked in the cab or the load area are opened with non-destructive entry tools, with no damage to the locks or seals. Vehicle entry starts from £95. See Locked Keys In Car.

Worn Keys & Ignitions

High-mileage vans wear their keys and ignition barrels faster than cars. A worn key can be recut to its original pattern, and a stiff barrel can often be repaired. See Ignition Repair and Broken Car Keys.

We work on most popular vans, including:

  • Ford: Transit, Transit Custom, Transit Connect and Transit Courier

  • Renault, Peugeot and Citroën: Trafic, Master, Expert, Boxer, Dispatch and Relay

How it works

How Van Key Programming Works

Van key programming follows the same principles as cars, but some vans have their own quirks.

Cutting The Blade

Van key cutting starts with the blade, copied from a working key or decoded from the lock when every key is lost. Many vans use robust, simple blades, while newer models use laser-cut profiles.

Coding The Key To The Van

Ford's immobiliser system, known as PATS, programs keys through the diagnostic socket, sometimes after retrieving a security code. Many Volkswagen vans hold immobiliser data in the instrument cluster, and the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter authorises keys through its ignition module. The method depends on the make, model and year, which is why we ask for the registration when you call.

Testing In The Cab

Every key is tested to lock and unlock the cab and the load area, start the engine and, where fitted, operate the remote. If the van has separate locks on the rear or side doors, those are checked too.

Clear pricing

Replacement Van Keys: Cost

Replacement van keys are priced per van, because the key type and programming method vary between makes and model years. A spare cut from a working key is the least expensive job, and replacing a key when every key is lost costs more. The price is confirmed before we travel, with nothing to pay upfront.

Lost Keys Cost More Than Spares

With a working key, the blade can be copied and many vans allow a simpler programming routine. With no key at all, the lock has to be decoded and the security system accessed more deeply.

No Surprises On Site

If the van turns out to need different work from what was described, you'll hear the revised price before anything is done, and there's no call-out charge if you decide against it.
