Why Japanese Import Keys Are Different
A Toyota built for the Japanese market can use different key parts from its UK equivalent. The biggest difference is the remote: Japanese-market remotes transmit on a different radio frequency, so a UK-spec remote may never work on an import, however similar it looks. The key has to match the car's original market.
That's why a UK dealer often can't help with an import, and why online keys so often fail. We identify the car from its chassis details before quoting, so the key brought to the vehicle is the right one.

Send Us These Before We Quote
Imported Toyotas don't always have UK-style records, so a little information up front saves a wasted trip:
The chassis or VIN number, usually on a plate in the engine bay or on the import paperwork.
A photo of your existing key, front and back, if you have one.
Whether the car has keyless entry, meaning it starts with a button rather than a key.
With those, we can confirm what's possible for your Toyota import key and give you a price.

Alphard Smart Keys & Power Doors
The Alphard is a popular import, and many come with a smart key that also operates the power sliding doors and tailgate. Alphard key replacement covers all of it, and the same applies to an Alphard spare key: the start function, the keyless entry, and the door controls on the fob, each tested before we leave. If only one key came with the car, an Alphard spare key is well worth arranging, as finding a correct import fob after a loss takes longer. Alphard key replacement after every key is lost is still done at the vehicle. More on our Alphard page.

Estima Keys
The Estima, sold in the UK in a different form as the Previa, came to Britain in large numbers as an import, including hybrid versions. Estima key work follows the same rule as the Alphard: the key must match the Japanese-market specification. On hybrids, the small 12-volt battery also needs checking, as a flat one can make a good key seem dead. See our Estima page.

Spares, Lost Keys & Programming
A spare made while one key still works is quicker and cheaper than replacing a lost key on an import, and it avoids a wait for the correct import key after a loss. Japanese import car keys can take a little longer to source than UK keys. Japanese import car keys are programmed at the vehicle, including spares for imports bought with one key, with the remote paired to the correct frequency and everything tested. See Spare Car Keys, Lost Car Keys and Car Key Programming. For UK-market Toyotas, see our main Toyota page.
