Corsa D Dead After A Flat Battery?
On the Corsa D, a flat battery can knock the body control module out of sync with the rest of the car. Once the battery is charged or replaced, the car may still refuse to start or respond to its key. A new key won't fix it: the module needs re-syncing with dealer-level software.
It's one of the most common Vauxhall calls we take, and it's often mistaken for a key fault. We check the module and the key at the car before quoting anything. If you've a Corsa key that has stopped working straight after a battery change, mention it when you call, as it points us towards the module first.

The Security PIN: What You'll Need
Vauxhall key programming needs the car's security PIN, which has to be bought from the manufacturer using your vehicle and ownership details. Have your V5C logbook and photo ID ready when you call, as they're needed to request it.
With the PIN in hand, Vauxhall key replacement is done at the car for every year and model, including lost keys with no spare. A Vauxhall spare key follows the same route, and it's registered as its own key, so it's well worth adding while you still have one working Corsa key or Astra key to hand. Our Lost Car Keys and Spare Car Keys pages cover each job in detail.

Why An Astra J Key Takes Ten Minutes
If you're with us while a key is added to an Astra J, don't be surprised by a pause. The car has a built-in security wait of about ten minutes before it accepts a new key, and nothing can hurry it. Vauxhall key programming on other models is usually quicker, though most still need the PIN first. It's normal, and the key is tested once the wait is over. Some Vauxhalls have a similar wait for the alarm system.

Worn & Snapped Vauxhall Ignitions
Corsa ignitions wear with age until the key catches or won't turn. On older models, including the Corsa C, Meriva and Combo, there's another fault: the tail at the back of the ignition barrel can snap, so the key turns but nothing happens.
Vauxhall ignition wear and a snapped barrel tail are both diagnosed at the car, and the barrel is repaired or replaced so your existing key still works where possible. See Ignition Repair. Vauxhall ignition faults are covered on all our model pages for the Corsa, Astra and Mokka.
